Slow Ceremony is a solo exhibition by Sherry Quiambao developed through research in Makassar and on Samalona Island, South Sulawesi. Bringing together moving image, photography, sound and sculpture, the exhibition considers how repeated everyday gestures can become acts of care and adaptation. Set against the shoreline, bright plastic baskets, vessels and domestic objects move between utility, ritual and environmental unease, reflecting on the contradictory place of plastic within everyday life.
The development of this work was supported by the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts’ International Studio Exchange Program.
