Veiled in a Golden Hue explores consumerism, aspiration, and belonging through the personal lens of family experience. Drawing on her Australian-Filipino heritage, Sherry Quiambao reflects on her mother’s migration from the Philippines to Australia and the intergenerational pressures that accompany dreams of stability and prosperity. Combining photography and video, the work transforms everyday objects, portraits, and gold surfaces into symbolic arrangements that consider memory, inheritance, material desire, and the ways consumer culture shapes identity. The artist acknowledges the support of the State of Western Australia through the DLGSC. This project was developed in residency at Fremantle Arts Centre.
